About George Cigale

Been a fun journey so far... Founded Tutor.com and led its growth as CEO/Chair until we were acquired by IAC in 2013. After 20 years of focus, one venture at a time, I've spent the next 10 years exploring, helping dozens of entrepreneurs in startup or growth modes, sitting on several Boards, and getting a couple ventures off the ground with partners. Recent engagements include:https://www.tohigherground.com/https://www.h1insights.com/https://www.thinkhuman.tv/https://www.olivemypickle.com/ https://brainly.com/ https://www.benesse-hd.co.jp/en/https://askwonder.com/ https://www.lingolive.com/ https://www.justmote.me/ https://www.nu.edu/ https://campus.org/ https://www.kraftylab.com/ https://www.beanstack.com/ https://litteraeducation.com/ After working as an Advisor to the Littera Education team for 7 months as it grew through the startup phase from 2 to 10+ people, I joined as President and COO In Sep 2021, leading operations, setting up systems, and helping the startup venture go to market and grow to 60+ people with hundreds of tutors and 80+ school districts as clients. At Columbia University Teachers College, I sit on the Board of Trustees of this 125-year old multi-faceted school of learning. Also joined the Board of The Wild Center, and serve on the Advisory Board at Johns Hopkins Medicine IBBS.And in May 2023, I just joined New Classrooms as President of Teach to One to expand the reach of New Classroom's new paradigm for individualized math instruction to many more students and educators. My first 501(c)3 non-profit organization as an exec/leader instead of a Board member, much to learn.I’m good at setting long-term strategy and vision, breaking big convoluted problems down to small bite-size pieces, and leading or coaching teams through the best approach for solving them. When not thinking about education technology, how we learn, and the future of work, I'm learning as much as I can about the intersection of fungi, microbiomes, nutrition, evolution, bio-electricity, and health and wellness; experimenting and improving on tasty fermentations; and spending time in the Adirondack woods foraging for mushrooms and climbing the high peaks.

One of my first jobs, while finishing up HS at Bronx Science, started by proctoring practice SAT tests for extra money on weekends, couldn't afford the actual Princeton Review courses. Then became a trained SAT tutor and went off to SUNY Binghamton for college. As a freshman, I started running TPR SAT courses in my spare time, renting space from a local church and hiring/training a couple SAT instructors. One of those serendipitous things that changed the course of my life.
