My life experience has helped me develop a range of skills. At the top of the list is writing and editing all kinds of material, but especially technical and business-related content. I've also had experience as a project leader, business owner and manager, sales manager, university-level instructor, and trainer and mentor. I've worked for a number of high-tech software companies and I'm comfortable collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. My greatest satisfaction comes from taking raw, frequently technical, content and making it easy, and sometimes even enjoyable, to read, especially for general audiences. Along those lines, I also specialize in collaborating with non-native English-speaking writers and helping them produce first-class content in US English.Recently, I've worked on two major projects outside the high tech world. I rewrote and edited a lengthy report commissioned by Clean Air, Cool Planet -- a non-profit organization that promotes the use of green, sustainable technology and practice. The report was written for the benefit of U.S. congressional committees and sought to make a case for creating a DARPA-style agency to promote R & D in clean energy technology and accelerate its viability in the market. ARPA-E, as it is called, is now functional and active in its mission.I also worked as editor on a book-length project commissioned by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). IAPP wanted to publish a "how to" guide to help professionals in either the public or private sector who are tasked with starting or expanding a privacy office. Working with a panel of national experts, who provided the raw content, I edited and rewrote material and had a major hand in shaping the final product.In a recent project for the International Association of Privacy Professionals I wrote a grant that secured a $500,000 award from a "cy pres" fund established by a court after a settlement in a privacy-related trial.Specialties: Technical documentation (online and print), especially for business software.
