Design and implementation of the matching engine that is at the core of Access to Talent. Matching is primarily done with Natural Language Processing, using Alchemy API and IBM Watson. Matching between talents and companies and talents and talents, based on passion, purpose and potential. Designing algorithms to extract culture and personality from texts.

Design and implementation of the recommendation engine that is at the core of Pimmr. Using a combination of existing libraries (Mahout, Alchemy API, IBM Watson) and home-grown algorithms for personally relevant recommendations. Able to deal with a multitude of input types; numerical ratings, boolean values and textual input. Emphasis is laid on providing reasonable results during the cold start phase. At the base of the recommendation engine is a custom designed fast approximate probabilistic reasoning system.

AI Labs offers recommendation technology consultancy and implementation. Clients starting with recommendation are brought from cold start all the way to big data. Algorithms are adapted, fine-tuned or rewritten to exactly fit the customer’s case. We offer both pluggable recommendation software and recommendation-as-a-service.

Development of LOFT, an innovative 3D interior design application. It allows users to virtually redecorate a room, in 3D, based on a photo of the room.Technologies used include Java, Hibernate, C#, ASP.NET MVC, JavaScript. My contributions included 3D camera animations, shader-based material simulations, lighting detection/simulation algorithms and application loading time optimization. Strongly involved in the architectural design of the application. On the process side, I advocated and implemented Scrum/Agile in the role of Scrum Master, focusing on leanness and effectiveness. Other contributions included introducing peer-reviewing, enforcing strict testing practices and rapid prototyping.

Design and development of a location- and interest-based mobile marketing platform. Implementation of an advanced matching algorithm, as well as a mobile application, a server backend and user and client portals. Technologies used include C#, ASP.NET MVC, PHP, Java, JavaScript.

Design of a new digital currency system for use in reciprocal exchange. Research done in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Multiagent Systems and Game Theory, crossing over into Economics and Social Sciences. Results based on formal proofs as well as simulations for more advanced scenarios.

Redesign and implementation of a real-time stock trading system. This involved the transformation of a single-threaded application to a multi-threaded application, enabling concurrent communication with several parties, design of an user interface for fast trading and implementation of automatic order placement. Redesign was done in phases, producing an improved application after each phase. The end result enabled the stock trader to work much more efficiently than before, resulting in much higher profits.
