Being the design director at Engaging.io isn’t just a great job for an awesome company doing something I love, it’s like being part of a family.It’s ironic really, as it's my family (in particular my mum) who shamelessly takes all the credit for my talent when it comes it design. As a young bloke helping my mum to produce commercial art lay-ups, she taught me the value of great design, which coupled with my natural curiosity of how things work, fuelled my passion for and subsequent career in digital design. It was in my mum’s blood, which according her is why it’s in my blood. That’s probably enough about blood.My career has taken me on a journey from print design through to digital design, visiting at all the UX and UI stops along the way. Caring equally about how things look and how they work, I still get just as passionate and excited about delivering a great design now as I always have done.Technology has changed a lot since I used to help my mum design by hand, but I still feel the principles of good design haven’t changed. What has changed drastically are the tools available to designers to create out of this world user experiences. Digital has always been an exciting space to work in for design, and with VR and MR looming there seem to be unchartered ways to create things that look amazing and work brilliantly.Being part of the team at Engaging.io, I’m lucky that I get to work with amazing developers and experienced digital and marketing strategists. It means that what we build looks great, works intuitively and is targeted at the right audience. Maybe that’s why we win awards. Or maybe it really is because of my mum.
