I was promoted to People Manager in 2004 and was at the time the youngest People Manager in South Wales. My duties in this role were to provide generalist HR and Employment Law advice to store teams and General Store Managers particularly. Together with my team, I was responsible for all store recruitment of hourly paid employees, I also was heavily involved in the selection of managers and graduates through the assessment center process. Each store that I was responsible for had on average 750 employees. While in post I was solely responsible for all aspects of operational HR, including training, performance management, disciplinary and grievance handling. I was a trained Appeals Champion for the region and would be called upon go into stores to hear appeals raised on issues.
