My role as HR Director is to manage the service that we provide to our retained clients. Myself and the team provide practical HR support and employment law advise to clients across all sectors in the SME market.We support our client base by acting as their outsourced HR department. I manage a team who have various specialties from recruitment, through to employee relations, so we are able to provide the client with the best person for the job.Managing a large portfolio of clients has enabled me to get involved in all aspects of HR and Employment Law practice. Throughout my career I have developed skills in managing the day to day hands on aspects of HR such as disciplinaries and dismissals, but increasingly I am called upon by clients to support them in a HRD role. In this vein I guide them through decisions that they need to make in order to grow their businesses, either by developing their teams or or through processes that will streamline them. My role is to facilitate business owners to make these decisions and to support them through the HR processes that result.

I volunteered on the Board of Your Pets Warehouse, a charity that provided training and work experience opportunities for young people in the Rhondda who are furthest from the job market.My role was to provide strategic and operational HR support and advice to the Board and the Managing Director.I supported them through management recruitment exercises, restructuring which included redundancies, disciplinaires and employee engagement initiatives.

After being made redundant from my role in Hugh James I started a consultancy business with my first client being my former employer! I developed a business offering the same sound and practical advice that I found that business owners valued in my last role. Being a sole trader I quickly had to develop skills, such as business development, marketing and finance in addition to my HR and employment law related ones, to enable me to build a successful business. While running this business I won clients within the South Wales area and built a reputation for providing good, reliable HR advice to my clients.I built the business up over 2 years and was approached my several larger consultancies who were interested in taking over the business that I had developed.In 2012 I merged with another business that was also being run by a single HR Consultant and we have since worked together to build a bigger business.

Cardiff

I was employed as an HR Advisor within the Employment Team. My role within the team was to provide largely remote HR and Employment Law support to clients signed up to their retained support package. In this role I was able to implement the skills that I had developed in my previous roles across a number of businesses within differing sectors. I found that I was able to support business owners who were often caught up in what was going on in an objective and professional way that they responded well to.

After joining Asda on their Graduate scheme in 2000 I developed into the role of People Manager within the business. I was promoted to People Manager in 2004 and was at the time the youngest People Manager in South Wales. My duties in this role were to provide generalist HR and Employment Law advice to store teams and General Store Managers particularly. Together with my team, I was responsible for all store recruitment of hourly paid employees, I also was heavily involved in the selection of managers and graduates through the assessment center process. Each store that I was responsible for had on average 750 employees. While in post I was solely responsible for all aspects of operational HR, including training, performance management, disciplinary and grievance handling. I was a trained Appeals Champion for the region and would be called upon go into stores to hear appeals raised on issues.
