Product Manager Ii

Revitalized struggling software products.Onboarded as part of an effort to modernize our analytics and reporting offerings. While building microservices (Docker w/ Kubernetes) to migrate certain reports, the accumulated tech debt for legacy systems led to critical errors impacting customer SLAs and forced us to reinvest in efforts to stabilize our existing reporting products. Through query optimization, infrastructure enhancements, driver and database upgrades, and various cleanup scripts we improved report performance by 67% and reduced critical errors by 50% within a year. My responsibilities have increased to assume product ownership for 3.5 teams and juggling meetings across IST, GMT, EST, PST hours. Aggressive company-wide growth targets were set, leading to challenges with prioritization and resources being stretched tight. Focused efforts on QA/DevOps automation and SRE monitoring resulted in faster releases with fewer bugs. Our alerting proactively caught a database issue before it became a customer-reported penalty. Metric definitions for feature impact helped with roadmap development and cross-functional stakeholder alignment, and success metrics further justified our planning methodology. Customer outreach helped reshape perceptions of legacy reporting while also highlighting a gap between current tools and their use cases, which has led to prioritizing new data access and extraction workflows.

Senior Analytics Engineer

South Jordan, Utah, Us

Customized data models to improve value-based care.Consultant for MedStar Health and Dana Farber Cancer Institute for multiple projects.I connected our CAUTI Prevention application to MedStar’s EHR and went through many iterations with clinical event coding to ensure accuracy. The model was able to help analyze populations and risk factors, track process metrics like timing of catheter replacement, and identify staff groups with high rates as a priority for training. Our Provider Productivity application focused on ways to help raise low performers to the median MGMA national benchmark. We tracked work-RVUs (Relative Value Units for Medicare reimbursement) and analyzed opportunities for increasing the number of encounters per day and areas where billing codes needed more consistency. I migrated over 900 Microstrategy reports to 90 Tableau dashboards for DFCI with optimized data sources in one year. Most of the time involved was understanding use cases for the reports and determining what levels of aggregation were needed to answer internal user’s questions. The UI/UX differences between the visualization tools also required a lot of user acceptance testing and documentation in order to achieve the mission of creating a culture of self-service analytics.Integrated data from Epic, Cerner, GE Centricity, Oracle PeopleSoft, Allscripts, OnCore, NPI registry, CPT coding, RxNorm.

Data Visualization Engineer

Madison, Wi, Us

Developed predictive analytics for clinical research.I had fallen in love with data visualization through independent projects, and so with no formal training in computer science domains like working with databases or software development, I stood out to the hiring manager with my passion for wanting to use data to improve clinical research. I was officially hired by the subsidiary Nimblify to jump start their analytics offering. As thrilling as the Wild West days were in the beginning, we soon made significant process updates to increase product reliability and adhere more closely to Agile methodologies. I used my marketing experience to establish branding guidelines for our SIMT application. I put on my QA hat to help a software engineer develop scripts to break apart our Tableau xml files so our code could be version controlled through Git. The dashboards I built focused on how to run better clinical trials. Most of the value from our product was not the analysis itself—everyone was already doing pretty much the same calculations—but rather the time savings. With a few clicks admins could assess the health of their departments across different metrics, drill into areas that needed attention, and generate a list of who to contact with all relevant data included. I created actionable insights that could adapt to a wide range of data models. I built a suite of dashboards covering study feasibility. We first needed to answer “how are we doing now?” before talking about the future, so based on trends from past trials I created a metric to predict the likelihood of reaching accrual goals. New flavors developed that put more emphasis on things like how much of the target demographic resided near clinic locations. Additional dashboards uncovered study activation bottlenecks and aided during budget negotiations by identifying where costs exceeded reimbursements.

Scientific And Marketing Writer

Madison, Wi, Us

Simplified complex topics to drive customer engagement. The marketing department at Promega requires a high standard of domain knowledge due to how closely they work with scientists, and so my background in biotechnology and marketing was a good fit. My role was to sit between product managers and the customer. This materialized most often in the form of technical manuals and whitepapers for our instruments and test kits. Our main objective was to unify the experience when using our products. Not only was I implementing our style and branding using Adobe InDesign, but I had to understand the detailed process our users were expected to follow so that I could harmonize the language between things like cell biology assays and microplate readers so that senior scientists and interns alike could achieve high success rates. My role was expanded to more traditional marketing activities of content creation, advertising and product messaging, social media and trade shows. Our approach was to construct message hierarchies to keep focus on the key value proposition of each product and the features that directly solve customer pain points. I wrote blog content for forensic DNA analysts about some of the deeply personal stories their work addresses to highlight how our values align, and achieved unprecedented social engagement. I leveraged this credibility during trade shows to connect with other attendees on the importance of our work. All of this built towards the launch of the Spectrum CE instrument which received high praise across the industry.
