Fiordland Expeditions operates personalised cruises in Doubtful Sound and private charters throughout Fiordland. During my time at Fiordland Expeditions, I skippered/was the sole operator of, two private hunting, fishing and diving charters carrying guests around a remote part of Fiordland. On these charters, I performed routine engineering, electrician and plumbing duties to ensure the general maintenance and upkeep of the vessel. I also oversaw the entire customer experience, including managing arrivals, departures and all activities and expeditions on the trips, which enhanced my customer service skills and leadership abilities. This experience was extremely rewarding.

During this time, I also gained experience in drilling support, anchor handling and FPSO towing operations.I assisted the Chief Officer and 2nd Officer, daily, with navigational watches, cargo operations, including rigging, and routine PMS checks and inspections.

My responsibilities included assisting the 3rd Officer, and I gained experience in rigging, watch keeping, safety and emergency gear maintenance and passage planning. This role gave me further exposure to the disciplines surrounding workplace safety and the importance of precision.

I learnt a lot about how such standards can achieve success, and these are firmly set on my own compass, which has guided me throughout my career.
