About Gene Pursifull, Cpa, Cgfm, Ea
As a licensed CPA, I am always seeking additional opportunities to advocate for increased awareness of governmental accounting career opportunities in the public sector as well as to share my experience and knowledge in accounting as a part-time adjunct faculty member. I retired from the Army (2022) with over 30 years of experience to include governmental finance as well as the opportunity to design training and provide instruction to diverse audiences. Upon my military retirement, I began work in public accounting with a tremendous audit engagement team who tirelessly supported my rapid transition from military to my current position of an audit manager. I have gained valuable experience with the FAM (not family) auditing federal agency financial statements. I earned my CGFM in 2023, passed all four sections of the CPA exam in 2021 and all three sections of the IRS SEE in 2019!!I have two Masters' degrees, one from Webster University (2015) and another from NCSU (2022). I graduated from the NCSU Jenkins Master of Accounting Program with an increased excitement about the accounting profession. Because I now work in the public sector, I completed work on finishing my GCFM credential to prove my understanding of public sector/ government accounting. I have a strong ability to understand and apply GAAP, IFRS, GAAS, GAGAS principles as well as a proven entrepreneur acumen to develop new business. I also continue to remain current on all significant tax changes especially those specifically related to small business and pass-through entities out of general interest. Governmental accounting is the perfect career path for those individuals who want to combine previous government service with a passion for accounting. Your daily work and efforts ensure that tax dollars are being spent as mandated by regulations & laws, increase agency performance & efficiency, and ensuring that agencies properly account for all money spent. Tax strategy optimization is another major area most needed by transitioning veterans who decide to go the entrepreneur route and certainly small business owners who make many decisions daily that might have unintended unforeseen tax complications in later years.
