George Etherington is an expert in internal dosimetry, monitoring after a radiation emergency, and radionuclide biokinetics. He retired from Public Health England in March 2017, but continues to work on topics within the general area of internal dosimetry that interest him. He is a task group leader of the European Radiation Dosimetry Group (EURADOS), and is currently leading a project to provide training in the monitoring of individuals for occupational intakes of radionuclides. He is also contributing to the work of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) on the assessment of levels and effects of radiation exposure resulting from the Fukushima nuclear reactor accident.
