In my role as a Data Scientist at electronRx, I have been a key figure in the development of algorithms for measuring patients' vital signs through their smartphones, with key input into rPPG and chest movement detection algorithms. I have been responsible for the planning and management of the development of backend software and algorithms, and contribute to all data science and reporting activities in the company.I am trained in ISO 13485 Medical Device development as part of the company's activities, but my responsibility also extends to being Usability Lead for two products. Alongside a susbstantial QMS burden, this involves planning, management and execution of all product Usability Trials, recruiting and testing the devices with members of the public and clinical practitioners alike.I also regularly contribute to data collection, representing the company in our regular UK clinics and in a clinical trial in Tokyo, Japan.

As part of this role, I worked for the Nuclear Medicine department on their ongoing R&D projects. These include novel isotope imaging, brain image analysis, medical image data mining (radiomics) development and the usage of AI in nuclear medical imaging.The two main projects I worked on focussed on cross-centre harmonisation in nuclear medicine imaging. I was the lead investigator on a project begun in 2013, where over 500 brain phantom images were collected from 16 national PET centres with outcomes of the project expected to focus on improving image reconstruction reporting. The other, an extension of the work completed during my PhD, focussed on improving the understanding of radiomics reporting by considering the effects of changing FOV count rate.

Integral to this is radiomics, the field of extracting complex and diverse metrics from medical images in order to see patterns invisible to any human observer. However, these metrics are highly experimental and their robustness and reproducibility has not been properly established - a necessity for their acceptance into the clinical environment. This project seeks to suggest a new and exciting framework for evaluating the reproducibility and uncertainties of radiomics metrics by using Monte Carlo simulation alongside 3D-printed anthropomorphic phantoms derived from patient data and existing PET theory.
