Over 30 years’ experience working on research and development in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe. With expertise in project development, coordination and implementation, worked in multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary teams, mainly in the area of agriculture and the environment. Using participatory value chain analyses involving small-holder farmers (usually the beneficiaries of developed technologies and information), real biophysical and socioeconomic challenges that constrain value chains have been identified and addressed, which impacted positively on the livelihoods of the farmers and other value chain partners. Closely working with value chain partners, market demands for various commodities have been identified and barriers limiting trade (e.g. compliance to local and international standards) addressed through training and linking of stakeholders.
