PRSfM is integral to the UK music publishing industry - representing UK-based music publishers and song-writers / composers around the world. I joined PRSfM specifically to work on a licensing strategy for the use of music in online video content (mainly UGC). Since then, I've focused on the most pressing licensing challenges facing the music publishing industry, including:- Major broadcaster deal negotiations in a world of declining (linear) TV viewing- The rapid rise of video on-demand (VOD) services and new charging models- Assessing of the size of the online "value gap", and understanding the drivers / possible fixes - Licensing the nascent video games download and streaming market- Understanding music pre-clearance practice and the threat to blanket licensing- Developing a mass market / low value online music licensing propositionMy work is predominantly commercial and economic, focusing on the value of rights being licensed. However, my work also requires me to have a thorough understanding of the legal framework underpinning a music licence (what restricted acts are taking place, which rights are granted by who, what limitations are imposed on those rights etc.).I've also worked on the overarching corporate strategy for PRS, where we considered the role of a CMO in 2019 (and beyond).
