George Q. Jackson, a graduate of Northern Michigan University, is a grant and fundraising professional with nearly 20 years of development experience in nonprofits, universities, and the public service sector. George currently serves as Associate Director of Grants Management at the Michigan Science Center in Detroit, MI. He oversees the organization’s grant cycle activities, including research and prospecting, proposal development, and post-award management and reporting. George has generated millions of dollars of funding over his career and managed multi-year grant-funded projects with budgets exceeding $3,000,000. He has served in fundraising and consultant roles with nonprofits, including Michigan Suburbs Alliance, East Michigan Environmental Action Council, Focus Hope, Boys & Girls Clubs Southeastern Michigan, Oakland University, and College Possible. He has participated in numerous professional development workshops and programs as a nonprofit and fundraising professional. George is the current chapter president and a founding member of the Grant Professionals Association-Michigan Chapter. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals-Greater Detroit Chapter (AFP-GDC). Also, he serves on the chapter’s board of directors. He has earned the nationally recognized Grant Professional Certified (GPC) credential administered by the Grant Professionals Certification Institute (GPCI). The GPC is a credential awarded to grant professionals who successfully demonstrate proficiency in the nine required competencies.George also serves on the executive committee and board of directors of a local Detroit nonprofit that provide a variety of therapeutic, prevention, and vocational experiences to adults, children, and their families. George, his wife, and two sons reside in the Detroit metropolitan area. He enjoys caring for houseplants, podcasting, reading science fiction, and engaging in outdoor activities in his spare time.
