Strengthening the Institutional capacity and decision makers on Climate resilience, Circular Economy, Integrated water resource management as well as on relevant issues around transboundary water management, international water law and negotiation skills to get into dialogue with stakeholders along the river basins on sustainable use of the available water (access benefit sharing).

a) Policy and Programme: • Design strategies and lead capacity assessments at the national and sub national level to identify skills gaps within natural environment sector institutions (county water boards, NEMA, WRUAS, WSPs, CBOs, youth and women groups ).• Provide support to county governments in the development of policies, legislation rules and regulations to govern the relevant sectors.• Assess policies and budget allocations to improve water and sanitation services, recommend improvements where required, support implementation of these improvement and monitor benefits and impact on increase access to water and sanitation services.• Working closely with the M&E team to develop annual consolidated programme implementation and development plans and budgets, complete with corresponding monitoring, evaluation, learning & reporting system/tools.b) Project/Institutional and Partnership Development: • Identify ongoing and planned programs by other donor agencies and/or government institutions; discuss and agree on collaboration efforts between these and the KIWASH program.• Improve the ability of service providers to garner political support for service improvement, including reforming necessary local policies.c) Stakeholder engagement:• Support the establishment and activation of sub national stakeholder forums to cascade and strengthen good governance practices. • Improve ability of local governments to plan, regulate, and monitor water and sanitation utility performance, including improving the financial profile of service providers and oversight responsibility.• Support multi-stakeholder development plan for improvement of services based on minimum standards.• Assess existing mechanisms of citizen involvement in local governance systems, improve where required and monitor benefits and impact on improvement of services.

As part of a consortium with VEI, WASEB, WASPA, and UNESCO-IHE supported 10 Kenyan water utilities. I worked as a WASH Consultant to improve their performance through benchmarking, collective learning and innovative financing. My contributions aimed to contribute to economic growth and self-reliance by increasing water coverage in urban low-income areas, developing commercial viability of participating utilities and establishing a mechanism for continuous performance improvement in the Kenyan water sector and harnessing private sector efficiencies through the establishment of performance-based contracts and enhancing downward accountability.My role included the institutionalization of the benchmarking programme in the Kenyan water sector through capacity building of the WASPA Secretariat. Facilitated collaboration between sector actors to achieve performance improvement at the WSP level and documented best practices identified through the implementation phase. One of the components of the project sought to enhance downward accountability and data analysis to support the decision making process for management teams in 10 water companies.
