As part of a consortium with VEI, WASEB, WASPA, and UNESCO-IHE supported 10 Kenyan water utilities. I worked as a WASH Consultant to improve their performance through benchmarking, collective learning and innovative financing. My contributions aimed to contribute to economic growth and self-reliance by increasing water coverage in urban low-income areas, developing commercial viability of participating utilities and establishing a mechanism for continuous performance improvement in the Kenyan water sector and harnessing private sector efficiencies through the establishment of performance-based contracts and enhancing downward accountability.My role included the institutionalization of the benchmarking programme in the Kenyan water sector through capacity building of the WASPA Secretariat. Facilitated collaboration between sector actors to achieve performance improvement at the WSP level and documented best practices identified through the implementation phase. One of the components of the project sought to enhance downward accountability and data analysis to support the decision making process for management teams in 10 water companies.
