Data Infrastructure [Jan 2017 - Present]- Led a team to design and implement a gRPC Kafka Consumer Push Proxy (https://eng.uber.com/kafka-async-queuing-with-consumer-proxy/) that leveraged gRPC and service mesh to enable simple, reliable, and scalable client-less delivery of Kafka messages to any gRPC server.- Designed and implemented a scalable and performant solution for distributed sharding of 100K+ Kafka topic-partitions over 1K+ workers.- Increased the reliability and reduced the operational overhead of Kafka Rest Proxy by migrating from single zone statically provisioned clusters to a multi-zone clusters running on Uber's compute scheduler while increasing availability to 99.99% for 10 mil requests/s and 25 GiB/s of business critical traffic- Redesigned the alerting system to use blackbox, SLA tracking alerts to reduce alert volume by 10x and improve SNR by 90%.- Designed and implemented a Kafka based Dead Letter Queue (https://www.slideshare.net/GeorgeTeo2/kafka-retry-and-dlq).- Implemented a Spark job that monitors for 100% completeness of data ingestion from online data sources (e.g., OTAP databases and Kafka) into the Hadoop data lake Uber for Business [Aug 2016 - Jan 2017] - built an API Integration Service to sync business trips with external expense providers.
