Digital Intelligence & Community Engagement (Dice) Prevention Officer

Current

Brisbane City, Queensland, Australia

The QPS implemented a multidisciplinary crime research approach to analysing and evaluating community fear of crime and misperceptions of safety, the Digital Intelligence & Community Engagement (DICE) capability. With just theee crime prevention members, the DICE Prevention team aim to design evidence-based initiatives and trauma-informed messaging to combat misinformation, enhance community crime prevention behaviours, and strengthen community sentiment to policing throughout Queensland Police districts. DICE Prevention methodologies include a formative research design involving data triangulation and analyses, digital intelligence and media capabilities to enhance crime prevention objectives and deliverables. My most integral contribution to DICE Prevention objectives is the development of an internal crime prevention messaging app to enhance consistent police messaging and prevent the spread of misinformation. This app provides effective messaging guidelines created using trauma literature and messaging analyses. As of February 2024, messaging prepared using this app has generated 95.55% positive community sentiment and 0.00% negative community sentiment. I aim to now develop a Power Bi statistical dashboard to provide real-time evaluations of the app usage and launch data.Since commencing in August 2023, DICE Prevention achievements have included the development of state-wide resources and Safer Together initiatives, the facilitation of community workshops and Crime and Community Safety surveys, social media campaigns, Council collaborations, and enhanced community engagement opportunities.

Brisbane City Watchhouse Youth Caseworker And Youth Justice Court Coordinator

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Due to rising rates of young people incarcerated in Queensland watchhouses, I begun in this role to use my knowledge and experience to contribute to the development of a Youth Justice Watchhouse Caseworker. I developed the Watchhouse Caseworker policy and procedure and worked alongside the Brisbane City Watchhouse Officer-in-Charge to enhance Watchhouse capabilities to provide trauma-informed interactions and support young people while incarcerated. I introduced vital youth organisations to my Watchhouse colleagues to improve access to mental health support in the Watchhouse and conducted daily suicide prevention welfare checks as well as early intervention activities with vulnerable young people.I worked with Forensic Child Youth Mental Health Services to assess risk and provide young people with medical requirements and contact with supportive family and kinships. This position was the first opportunity in Queensland where Youth Justice and QPS met for monthly multiagency meetings to enhance supports and reduce the risk of traumatisation for young offenders within watchhouses. As a result of many successes within this position, Youth Justice now funds Watchhouse Caseworker positions in every Queensland watchhouse facility.
