I run the Preventative and Priority Programs Unit, which develops and coordinates org-wide delivery of far reaching behaviour change campaigns that prevent environmental pollution. We do this because, as sources of pollution become more diffuse, traditional regulatory tools deployed in isolation are unable to keep up. EPA must coordinate its resources and use every tool in its toolbox to effect positive change.We achieve change by delivering innovative, evidence based interventions to educate industries on how to comply, enforce the law, and ultimately encourage higher performance. We leverage media, industry bodies, community groups, other government agencies and anything else we can to get the job done. We are clever disruptors. Our goal is unblinking - continuous improvement in Victoria's environmental quality, for the protection of the environment and human health.

I ran the Permitting Team within Development Assessments Unit. Permitting Team provides robust assessment against 50 statutory powers, related to waste & wastewater reuse, prescribed industrial waste transportation and more.The team includes a mix of very experienced and brand new staff. My role included team development, complex and ever-changing issues management and continuous pursuit of reforms and improvements.I was the first person to lead this team, as it was newly formed through restructuring. Thus I had the unique challenge of establishing the team's identity and boundaries. As a "catch all" team for miscellaneous approvals, this included identifying infrequently used approvals and ensuring their mechanisms were recorded and understood. During my tenure I identified over 30 approval types that were infrequently used and whose processes had atrophied, and ensured we maintained capability to respond to these approval types when the need arose.

Delivering a far reaching reform to EPA's science and engineering capability, I worked as a leader in a small and nimble project delivery team. I designed and led recruitment for 80 staff and 15 leaders. I designed communication materials in 9 formats and delivered face to face training on extremely short deadlines in a heavily contested and charged environment.

Working in a highly qualified team of senior influencers, I led EPA's input into major infrastructure projects such as Dual Gas, East West Link and Melbourne Metro.Major Projects Unit's role was as liaison between the Department of Planning, proponents and EPA technical assessors. As well as project managing complex assessments, I was also responsible for influencing to achieve outcomes over and above EPA's regulatory scope, including changes to inter-departmental coordination practices and improvements to our framework legislation (the Major Transport Projects Facilitation Act).
