Production Manager
CurrentI work on a range of high end art and photography books, exhibition catalogues, scientific journals and ‘Kew’ Magazine. • Manage the Production of Kew Publishing, reporting to the Head of Publishing on budgets, timescales, new and ongoing projects.• Contribute to annual and strategic business planning, providing estimated budgets for production spend, on yearly, monthly and individual project basis, monitoring and reporting on actual spend.• Manage the in house production team, and maintain excellent communications with internal and external authors and suppliers, to ensure good stakeholder relationships.• Manage the production of Kew Magazine, liaising with internal Kew staff and external suppliers including printers, repro and mailing houses, to ensure high quality and timely and accurate delivery to members and stakeholders. • Project manage all new titles from handover to print, according to agreed timescales and budgets, to a high quality and in accordance with house style, liaising and negotiating with suppliers, freelancers and project managers as appropriate. Signing off final proofs to ensure efficient, cost effective, timely delivery to warehouse of high quality publishing products, and to meet agreed publication release dates.• Provide technical and colour production assessment of incoming content from authors, designers, illustrators, photographers. Advise and provide solutions with respect to technical quality and potential production issues, including work on images; preproduction image manipulation and artwork.• Commission, brief and manage freelance designers and other creative workers undertaking work for Kew Publishing programme titles. • Procure print and other manufacturing services for specific publication projects, according to Government procurement and environmental policies and best practices.
