I have over 20 years of experience in the IT field. My passion with computers started when I was very little and my dad took me to his work at the local semiconductor company. This is when I saw my first computer which was the size of a nice bedroom wardrobe. I was so impressed by it and immediately fell in love with technology. I was one of the first in my neighborhood to get a PC right before they got mainstream. I learned through reading how to take it apart, reinstall and upgrade, and before knowing, I was doing it all for my friends. My career in IT started at a Bulgarian insurance company where I started at a simple data entry position - my job was to enter policies information into a PHP-based information system, as well as, sort and arrange the photos from car insurance claims. This is where my own PC knowledge helped me improve this process by utilizing the multi-rename and sorting capabilities of Windows Commander and ACDSee. My skills were noticed by the IT department and I was quickly promoted to the IT team. My main role in the beginning was mostly end user support. I came up with the idea to use Norton Ghost to "recover" images on newly installed batches of computers which was truly a game-changer for us at the time and very novel idea. Later on, we deployed an Oracle based information system and I was promoted to a more senior role in supporting it, together with its Oracle database. My biggest contribution on this position was the implementation of online policy print, directly from the information system. Before that, our company was pre-ordering printed policies which were filled by hand each time, and entered in the system at later point. I built that using Oracle Reports and I'm super proud that it's still being used to this day, more than 10 years later. I also built, using Oracle Forms, a small app for the claims department with hyperlinks to policies, previous claims and etc. All they needed in a single window. After close to 10 years at this company, I won Green Card and moved to the US. I was extremely lucky to find the best company I could ask for. I started again as pure end user support - yes I was fine with starting all over again as it was a whole new culture and the technology was the latest and greatest comparing to my previous experience where we were cutting corners to get the cheapest of the cheapest. I climbed myself in the latter from Junior to Senior End User Support Admin, gained multiple Microsoft certificates and was promoted again to the Infrastructure Team, starting from Level 2 and being at a Senior role now.
