CurrentIn my tenure at Heywood Avenue School I have provided innovative, data-driven leadership to nurture growth for our 60+ teachers and 440+ K-8 students. In this role, I manage and implement curricula, coordinate testing, coach and mentor teachers, facilitate professional development, and more. My key contributions over my 14 years include: » STEM Focus | I collaborated with the principal to spearhead a STEM program to engage students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This involved creating and hiring a new STEM teaching position, an elementary Robotics Club, and implementing middle school classes in App Creation, Green Architecture, and Coding. Since its inception, our students have consistently earned the district’s highest Math scores.» Project Lead the Way | Our school earned PLTW Distinguished Program Recognition annually since 2019. » WIPRO Science Education Fellowship Program | We partnered with Montclair State University to provide access to intensive Fellowship training for our Science teachers.» Extended Day Program | We applied for and received grant funding to implement a 21st Century Community Learning after-school program delivering data-driven tutoring, inquiry-led STEM programming, and student mentorship. » Alumni Day | I created an annual Alumni Day to engage students with college and high school students returning to Heywood to share their accomplishments and guidance.» Middle School Convocation | I implemented monthly convocations for grades 5-7 to build community, set goals, and celebrate student accomplishments. » Danielson Framework | I implemented this innovative, standardized system for teacher evaluation. » LETRS / Heggerty Reading | We served as pilot school in implementing this district-identified phonics/phonemics program for elementary students. » Acadience Reading | We spearheaded the implementation of reading program to identify and support students at risk for reading difficulties through RTI/MTSS.
