About Gerard Mccorry

With over fifteen years of experience working in the entertainment industry as an audio, lighting and vision technician, as well as a technical stage manager, I am passionate about all elements of production. In my current role as a Technical Supervisor for the Royal Albert Hall, I am responsible for the preparation, set-up and operational requirements of events across the venue, from the Main Auditorium, to Beyond the Main Stage areas, including the Elgar Room and other spaces within the building. Ensuring that all events are exceptionally well planned and working closely with other colleagues in the team, I ensure that the technical delivery of all events and productions is to the highest possible standard. Between 2009 and 2022, I held a post as a technician with several prestigious venues in Northern Ireland, including the Grand Opera House, Lyric Theatre and Metropolitan Arts Centre. Additionally, I worked for three years in Australia across several of their largest cultural festivals, such as the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Melbourne Fringe Festival, and for one of the largest audiovisual providers in Asia-Pacific, Encore Event Technologies. As my career progressed, I have been fortunate to work across the full scope of the live entertainment and events industry, from theatre and dance, music festivals, live performances, meetings and conferences through to streamed and hybrid events, product and media launches, incentives, corporate functions and themed gala dinners. I have developed a deep level of understanding and practical experience in all areas of planning, developing, managing and executing productions under exacting and detail-focused clients while working to the highest standards of health and safety under both British and Australian legislative bodies. This has allowed me to develop a working knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, COSHH, Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, its supplementary Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 and Safe Working Method Statements. When not taking a senior operating role within productions, I worked closely with clients and Technical Event Directors to facilitate events by assembling production schedules, managing production budgets to ensure we provided clients with the best value for money, drawing stage, rigging and lighting plots in Vectorworks, pre-visualising lighting designs in MA3D and developing multimedia presentations in Qlab, all of which required excellent computer literacy skills and attention to detail.
