They have increased from 2.1 million to over 2.8 million firms, according to a report recently released by the Commerce Department's Census Bureau. While Affirmative Action has had its issues over the past few years, it is still alive. Though many of the catch phrases are no longer in vogue, most of the money that was available to minorities is still available.It is no secret that most of our politicians, primarily Senators and Congressmen, hold their positions of power by taking care of their constituents. One of the largest voting blocks is minorities so it should be of no surprise that grants for minorities are a high priority for politicians.The politics of Grant Giving is driven by the promises that are made by politicians during their campaigns attempting to attract the votes of various minority groups.There are millions of dollars available for African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, American Indians and practically any other group that is considered a minority.German Nande NewsAHRQ intends to support career development grants for research on HAIs in all settings (Tier 1, Tier 2, and long-term care) as scientifically warranted. HAI research priority areas are set forth in a companion Special Emphasis Notice (NOT-HS-11-002): AHRQ Announces Areas of Interest for Research on Healthcare-Associated Infections [INSERT LINK to HAI research SEN]. These research priority areas include the following:1) Determination of the clinical efficacy, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness of preventive interventions.2) Development, demonstration, and implementation of strategies for prevention and management of HAIs.3) Characterization and assessment of relevant epidemiological aspects of HAIs, such as patient risk factors, clinical presentation, and sources of antibiotic-resistant organisms involved in the development of HAIs.Specialties: German Nande
