Senior research fellow with the University College Cork MaREI centre, developing and leading scientific research in the Marine Environment and Offshore Energy space. I coordinate SATURN H2020 and JONAS Atlantic Area Interreg projects on underwater noise, and previously managed the 10m € EU MARINET project. I previously led work packages in three other EU 7th Framework Projects (MESMA, GeoSeas, Coralfish). To date I have personally generated contracts with a value of 4.5m € to UCC; and key contributor in securing a further 1.5m€. My current research is focussed on underwater noise, in the context of a broader interest in the development of marine renewables, offshore acquaculture and the sustainable management of living and non-living resources with particular reference to Irish and EU near-shore shelf environments and processes. In order to achieve this I develop and manage a variety of research projects and consultancy contracts. These typically involve the application of high resolution acoustics (both active and passive), seabed mapping techniques (multibeam/geophysics and geotechnics) combined with innovative GIS data management and dissemination methods, effectively facilitating the transformation of raw data into technical/engineering solutions, science policy and commercial applications.Specialties: IPMI Certified Applied Project Manager.
