In BISCI, Maastricht University, Fontys Hogescholen and TNO combine their knowledge and network in this area within a number of joint Innovation Programs. Technical Project Coordinator of CORE (Consistently Optimised Resilient Secure Global Supply Chains), a €50M European RTD project in the FP7- Security Programme, involving over 70 project partners including multiple customs and police organisations, operators in global trade & logistics, IT solution providers and knowledge institutes. CORE builds upon the CASSANDRA concepts thus aims to balance three seemingly conflicting challenges in global intermodal container logistics: efficiency, resilience and security. The solution builds upon joint & integrated risk management by businesses and by border agencies such as Customs. Advanced supply chain visibility and data sharing is the cornerstone of this concept, called the Data Pipeline. Being the Technical Coordinator of CORE, Gerwin was end responsible for the project results and the project activities being executed by a project team organisation of 75 FTE/year during 4 years. The project highly contributed to the revised strategy and vision of Dutch Customs and a joint venture between Maersk and IBM on a blockchain-based data sharing infrastructure for global trade and logistics, later known as Tradelens.
