Real-time interpretation of interviews and media events conducted in Italian, such as those between Italian crew members on board the International Space Station and members of the Italian Government, media, and technical personnel on the ground. English interpretation is overlaid and broadcast on NASA TV.

SENIOR TEST DIRECTOR - CREW TRAINING (2013-2020)* Technical expert and project manager, planner and conductor of hazardous manned and unmanned thermal and thermal vacuum/altitude test operations, including astronaut Extravehicular Activity (EVA) training at the JSC Crew and Thermal Systems Division.* Conduct reduced pressure, in-suit EVA astronaut training with flight procedures for nominal and contingency operations, exercising ultimate responsibility over astronaut/test subject health, performance and safety.* Manage personnel, schedules, forecasts, progress and budget, of long term/large scale projects.* Prepare and author numerous kinds of documentation, such as detailed test procedures, training materials (for crew and test team members), presentation materials, test rules and Test Readiness Review packages.* Extensive experience briefing and training crew members in classroom settings, as well as simulators (i.e. thermal chambers) and hazardous test operations.* Train and mentor junior test directors in facility operations, space suit usage and astronaut training operations, and recommend any additional training to assure proficiency prior to certification. Office of Faculty Development and Diversity - sponsored by the National Space Biomedical Research Institute.Provided expertise on the function and physiology of the human neurovestibular system, its pathologies, the effects of space travel on its nominal operation, and other general science, physics, and engineering principles. Developed and co-wrote a problem-based case study and teacher’s guide (downloadable from www.nsbri.org) designed to expose secondary school students to the vestibular system and its role in balance.

Man-Vehicle Laboratory, Graduate Research Assistant Contributed to the development and evaluation of the “Principal Investigator-in-a-Box” diagnostic expert system designed to assist astronauts with the calibration and troubleshooting procedures of a space-based sleep and respiration experiment.Supported Sleep Experiment Shuttle flights (STS-90 Neurolab and STS-95) with on-orbit and post-flight activities. Conducted a ground-based pilot study to evaluate the efficacy of the expert systemPerformed a post-flight analysis on the data obtained from STS-90Co-wrote two successful proposals, which received funding from NASA Ames and the NSBRI.
