Profile bio

About Gilbert Mink

As an electronics professional I read schematics and mechanical drawings more easily than most people read books. I visualize electronic circuits, where components are relative to each other and how temperature, humidity, air flow and EMI may affect them. Though I am very hands on and technically skilled, I enjoy the theoretic as well. Though I am especially well suited for hardware design validation, I have a passion for computer rehabilitation and upcycling. I am tenacious in my troubleshooting, thorough in root cause analysis and meticulous in repair. A team player and collaborative problem solver. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Highly skilled at documenting processes and procedures with an eye for continuous improvement.

Listed skills include Sparc, Product Lifecycle Management, Storage, Troubleshooting, and 44 others.

Electrical Engineer, Npi And Sustaining, For Sparc Based Entry Level Servers

Santa Clara, Ca

• Qualification of SPARC processors, DIMMs, power rails, USB, PCIe, SATA, SAS, NVME, Solaris, TCP/IP and proprietary bus protocols. • Defined test requirements, executed qualification tests, evaluated test results, published test reports and performed FA on failing devices. • Routinely troubleshot, to the component level, faults found in validation testing.• Always documented my work by creating step by step procedures including photos and diagrams to ensure each experiment was repeatable.• Executed system updates with the latest firmware, software and hardware builds.• Automated and integrated software tests, environmental chamber control, remote AC power control and log file screening into one modular script. Using Expect (Tcl), the script was used across many generations of systems from workstations to entry level servers to blade servers. The script saved hundreds of man hours and simplified the scrubbing of all the log files and test reports finding many errors that otherwise would have gone unnoticed. • Designed, prototyped and tested circuits to solve system issues.• Created a microprocessor based system development tool. This tool employed the use of TCP/IP, RS-232, I2C and discrete I/O communication to remotely control systems under development. This project included circuit design, circuit simulation, PCB layout, system and cable assembly, C and assembly language programming and enclosure design and fabrication. It allowed remote access to system jumper settings, power switch, firmware and automated control of voltage levels. • Outfitted new engineering labs, selected placement of workbenches and equipment racks, network cabling ports, test equipment and tools. • Manually captured thousands of timing and voltage measurements.• Developed programs to read values from signal screen shots, decipher CPU and peripheral registers, find specific DIMMs in systems in our lab, automate reports and graphs.
