• Designed and built a gas turbine combustor, mapping the stability of the combustor with different fuel compositions and geometries in terms of flashback and lean blowout.• Characterized the flow field using a high-speed Particle Image Velocimeter (PIV)• Modeled the combustion process using a C++ toolbox called OpenFOAM, which is used for the development of customized numerical solvers and pre-/post-processing utilities for the solution of continuum mechanics problems. I then matched the models to my experimental results. Based on my findings, I made small modifications to the geometry of the combustor and explored its impact on the stability map against flameout or lean blowouts.
