About Gilbert Thomas
I started my career in High-Performance Computing with Sun Microsystems, which laid the foundation for most of my career, and I learned HPC concepts like High Perf Storage and HPC Schedulers, FLOPs, etc while I was there. After that was Platform Computing as a Presales Engineer covering the LSF Scheduler, before IBM acquired the company. This was when my first foray into AI was, supporting the NVIDIA GPU Power Servers (822LC with Pascal and then the AC922 with Volta), at that time the only servers providing NVLINK between the CPU and GPU. It was a great product and we had some great software around it (PowerAI, AIVision - AutoDL for Computer Vision) but the adoption never reached critical mass.I joined Dell as an NVIDIA-funded headcount as a Technical BDM next, evangelizing NVIDIA AI solutions to the Dell sales account managers and pre-sales engineers, before joining Altair Engineering to try my hand at pure sales, as a sales manager driving their HPC software solutions. Now I am a Solutions Architect at NVIDIA, supporting key strategic accounts in the ASEAN region, as well as providing technical guidance to our OEM partners. My main goal and interest is in helping our customers use AI to solve business problems. I often try out deploying use cases using AI to understand how they would work before I speak to customers about those use cases.
