As a DAG in the Consumer Protection Unit, I have gained a wide range of experience in civil, criminal and administrative proceedings focused on consumer related matters and fraud. Most recently, the majority of my work has been centered on mortgage related matters ranging from national state/federal settlements to enforcement actions against loan modification scams to issues surrounding post-foreclosure activities and homeowner and tenant rights. Mortgage related fraud is prevalent in the wake of the foreclosure crisis and the issues presented by it are nascent and require innovative legal and policy decisions.With the enactment of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, federal consumer laws have become more relevant to state-level work. This development requires novel analysis of legal issues that states were never before considering. It has also created opportunity for more interactions and collaborations with federal agencies such as the CFPB and FTC, as well as with other state attorneys general offices.In addition to enforcement of various consumer protection statutes, I have had opportunity to draft legislation for a variety of issues, including mortgage foreclosure and charitable regulation. Through drafting, I had several opportunities to advocate for my bill both before the Delaware Legislature and in the public sector and became intimately familiar with the legislative process.Working for the public interest and striving to protect consumers, I have developed consumer alerts and informational media to educate the public on assistance that may be available, participated in internal policy discussions surrounding consumer-based legal matters, and prosecuted fraud perpetrated against Delawareans.
