Position created as part of tripartite-funded initiative between South African government, employers’ federation and trade union umbrella organisation (COSATU) to develop skills and opportunities in lowest paid sectors. Researched and developed new skills and wages model for clothing, textile and footwear sectors, based on international best practice. Conducted participatory research with union management, shop stewards and members nationally to develop model, propose plan for implementation and inform negotiations between partners. Trained shop stewards to raise awareness and train membership.
