SciLink was born out of the idea that an author list contained in a published scientific paper is a social network. In 2006, less than 3% of published authors had LinkedIn or other public profiles. In its first year, SciLink grew to 120k users representing all top 50 pharmaceutical and academic institution in the world. By 2009, SciLink was installed.
