Gil has over 30 years of experience in developing innovative machine learning technologies and in creating successful startups based on machine learning and AI. He is a business executive with deep understanding of technology, quantitative analysis, and machine learning. Gil was previously the VP of Technology Research at Orbital Insight. In this role, he advised on business and product directions, and helped the company stay current on AI R&D that could impact future business. Gil was the founder and CEO of FeatureX. FeatureX used computer vision and other machine learning technologies to discover meaningful patterns in the world's data. FeatureX was backed by the Tudor Investment Corporation. FeatureX was acquired by Orbital Insight in 2018.Gil is the founder and CEO of Machine Insight, a firm engaged in machine learning research and development. Machine Insight developed proprietary machine learning technology that finds predictive patterns invisible to other machine learning techniques. Prior to Machine Insight, Gil co-founded Percipio Capital, a machine learning-based hedge fund that successfully traded in the futures markets. Gil also co-founded Optimax Systems, a successful AI-based scheduling company that optimized production in factories. Gil has a patent on the core combinatorial optimization techniques used by Optimax Systems. Gil studied at the University of Michigan, where his advisor was John Holland, inventor of genetic algorithms and classifier systems. Holland was the recipient of the MacArthur genius grant for that work. Genetic algorithms continue to play a role in Gil’s R&D activities. Gil is an angel investor, and an advisor and board member for startups. He still develops code on occasion, mostly using Java and Python.Gil is also an accomplished racecar driver.
