Growing up among the vines in the historic Cucamonga Valley has provided 4th generation vintner Gino L. Filippi a unique blend of grape and wine experience. As co-owner of J. Filippi Winery 1993, Gino led restructuring / rebranding, marketing and sales expansion (retail / wholesale), and collaboration with the City of Rancho Cucamonga's Redevelopment Agency to relocate the declining family winery to the historic Ellena/Regina Winery Rancho Cucamonga (RC) 1994.In 1995, the U.S. Dept. of Treasury approved "Cucamonga Valley" as an official American Viticultural Area - the result of a petition written and filed by Gino on behalf of local growers / producers. https://www.ttb.gov/images/pdfs/Cucamonga_Valley_NPRM.pdfGino developed Cucamonga Cooler Wine Spritzers in 1992.He assisted the RCRDA and Planning / Historic Preservation Committee with restoration efforts of the historic Ellena/Regina Winery (1994-2007).With community and artist outreach, Gino developed programs for history murals, artist series labels, exhibits, events. In 2000, The Chaffey Community Art Asso. Museum became a tenant at the winery.In 2001, Gino developed a winemaking relationship with French Enologist Marc LURTON in Bordeaux, creating Deux Mondes Reserve 2003, ultra-premium Cucamonga red blend.Gino's "Off the Vine" column first appeared in the Daily Bulletin (1996) newspaper, Foothills Magazine (2008), Foothills Reader/LA Times (since 2013) and regional publications.During the development of the City of RC's Central Park Master Plan, the City enlisted Gino and fellow vintner Domenic Galleano to determine the viability of the park's remaining Century-old grapevines.For several years, Gino has cared for the City's head-trained vines at Central Park, PE Trailhead, Los Amigos Park. As member of Chino Basin Watermaster's Agricultural Pool, Gino is an active proponent of groundwater recharge.In 2024, the City of RC and Galleano Winery, Inc., entered agreement for ongoing vine revitalization and new plantings.Gino's passion and dedication to the Cucamonga Valley Appellation and its old vines, which are irreplaceable resources and important pieces of cultural and biological history is to be commended. Gino serves on regional Boards including: Chino Basin Watermaster - Agricultural Pool, Upland Community Housing, Inc. Former Board member San Antonio Water Co., Chino Basin Watermaster, The Root 66 Community Garden & Vineyard, Rotary Club of RC. He was elected to the Upland City Council in 2010, re-elected 2014. He is a native and 50+ year resident of Upland Ca.
