About George Davis
With over five years of experience, I bring enthusiasm and rigour to my role in practice. I have gained a holistic view of the design and delivery of projects across scales and sectors. I am conscientious and proactive, keen to learn and contribute to a collaborative team. I am adaptable to new situations and software, with experience across a wide array of software packages and the RIBA work stages. The MArch course enabled me to build upon my undergraduate studies and explore specific interests in tectonics, material expression and continuity. I am interested in learning from historical urban typologies to create architecture that is contemporary, yet contextual, addressing concerns of embodied carbon and resource efficiency. My postgraduate dissertation, titled ‘Continuity & Reinvention’, analysed the relationship between three unconventional projects and a broader sense of continuity in architecture and urban form (Herzog & de Meurons’s Rue des Suisse, Rossi’s Quartier Schützenstraße and Rogers and Pianos’ Centre Pompidou). I am interested in an architecture that learns from and contributes to the wider urban landscape and society at large, born out of an expression of structure and refined technical resolution. I am a member of the WCCA (Livery Company) and regularly attend Architecture Foundation events, lectures, and building visits; an engagement with the broader discipline I thoroughly enjoy.Traditional Architecture Group’s Best Student Project Award 2022 Winner (MArch Architecture)3D Reid Student Prize Nominee (MArch Architecture)Traditional Architecture Group’s Best Student Project Award 2021 Runner Up (MArch Architecture)RIBA Bronze Medal Nomination (BA (Hons) Architecture)AJ Student Prize Nomination (BA (Hons) Architecture)Associate Head of School Prize (BA (Hons) Architecture)

Architectural Assistant (Part 2)
CurrentAllies and Morrison are a practice which works across scales from individual buildings to city-wide masterplans. I have been involved in masterplans in London and in Canada, working to varying degrees of detail as appropriate for the client’s situation. This has involved preparing visualisations and drawings for public consultation and publicity purposes, to overseeing consultant coordination and material for a full planning application. In each case the projects have sought to learn from the heritage of a place and build upon that language to embed the masterplan within the wider context. In addition to this urban-level work, I have worked on construction stages for a mixed-use office and residential building in London which should complete in 2024. In addition to sub-contractor coordination, I took responsibility for joinery packages, liaising with the interior designer and contractor.
Architectural Assistant (Part 2)
I worked at Design Engine Architects for over four years, working across RIBA stages and up to BIM Level 2. This experience introduced me to the process of delivering a robust design for high-quality buildings. Having played a key role in teams working on education, student residential and manufacturing projects, I have developed my knowledge of designing for specific acoustic, ventilation and regulatory requirements. I have proven myself to be adaptable and proactive, belonging to both the sustainability and BIM working groups, I played a central role in creating new practice-wide standards and processes for the practice’s transition to Archicad.
Architectural Assistant (Part 1)
Private Work - Map And Diagram Illustration
I was asked to create illustrations of maps and diagrams for use in a book authored by a university tutor, Dr Nikolina Bobic.
Student Ambassador
As a Student Ambassador I regularly represented the University at open days and events. I have also worked in the university's call centre, ringing offer holders and applicants to invite them to applicant days and answer any enquires. I curated and constructed exhibitions to sell the work and ethos we have in our School of Architecture. This experience has strengthened my confidence when dealing with unfamiliar people, be it in person, or via a phone.
Private Work - Measured Surveys And Inspections
I was originally asked to work on a number of public conveniences, measuring internal dimensions of the buildings along the South West Coast Path and in Paignton and Brixham Town Centres. I drew up the spaces in AutoCAD to generate plans for use in a potential refurbishment programme by the local authority. Healthmatic have since won the contract, and this year I conducted further surveying work on the conveniences.
Barista
Handcrafting beverages, interacting with customers (including outside beverage tasting) and maintaining store standards
Summer Intern
I worked at Sutton Griffin over a summer break, helping me to gain an insight into the architectural profession. I was responsible for producing documents to send to clients; generating drawings both by hand and from Revit models. I specifically worked on a residential re-modelling and extension project, alongside qualified architects, in addition to the numerous commercial developments I produced documentation for. This valuable experience has helped me to develop a stronger awareness of some technical challenges and representation methods used in the profession, which I have built into my academic work.
Sales Advisor
Till operation, helping customers with queries about menswear products and promoting services available to them. I return on a temporary basis during holiday time from university.
