Working for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). Network design and installation of web and email DMZ’s. As a result of network attacks on DoD servers and applications in 2001, the concept of the DMZ was created and implemented. Through the use of Foundry FastIron switches, Checkpoint firewalls, proxy servers and Cisco content switches, the DMZ installation was proven successful in reducing network attack on vital DoD systems and applications. Network upgrades and replacement of legacy network hardware was completed at all major DISA data centers. Single point of failure network links to the DoD network backbone were upgraded with redundant network backbone connections at each site using Juniper Enterprise class routers, Cisco Catalyst and Foundry FastIron switches to create separate Core, Distribution and Access layers within the data center environment. Managing the installation of new HP and Sun hardware for DoD applications and server environments to complete installations on time. Complete initial hardware checks, and configuration of the operating system. Systems were then turned over to the customer for application load and setup. Installation of UNIX and Windows operating systems, application of the DISA Server Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) to harden the operating system against outside attack. Patch installation and upgrades were completed for the customer on an ongoing basis.

Network operations, Level II, and Level III technical support for the Global IP network for customer connections, backbone network, and ISP peering points. Installation and configuration of backbone, and access layer Cisco routers to increase backbone availability and customer connection points.Network connections for customers were not limited to direct circuit up to T-3, Frame Relay, IDNX, VSAT and ATM. Management of these installs that covered the circuit provisioning, port configuration, testing with circuit providers, and troubleshooting complex installs. Analysis of current network usage and capacity were completed to determine if backbone upgrades were required to keep costs at a minimum as well as satisfy demand for bandwidth as the customer base increased.
