I have 26 years of teaching and curriculum design experience in NYC public schools and in rural Maine. My areas of expertise are reading, writing, math, and field based, place based science. i've helped found three schools in NYC including two public IB schools designing field based science curriculum, a math workshop approach, a school-wide reading program, and character education curriculum centered on the four Cardinal virtues. Prior, I worked for 17 years with literacy guru and internationally recognized litarcy innovator, Nancie Atwell, at the Center for Teaching and Learning where I taught literacy, science, math, and history using rigor and authenticity as the guided design principles. I won a national teaching award through St. Mary's College's School for Environmental Studies in 2019, and have had numerous articles, presentations, nominations, and recognition for the work I've completed specifically related to having kids complete real science with scientist mentors in the field.
