Editorial consultant specializing in feminism, literature, East and Southern Africa. I am a former executive editor of Ms. Magazine, former executive director of The Feminist Press, and a working journalist and editor. I'm currently working with individual authors to edit and refine their manuscripts. I have worked with a diverse array of authors, editing books and articles, including Susan Faludi, Claudia Dreifus, Barbara Ehrenreich, Rosemary Bray, Jill Nelson, Grace Paley, Gloria Steinem, Eve Ensler, Marcia Gillespie. I am the author of Re-Making Love: The Feminization of Sexuality (1986) with Barbara Ehrenreich and Elizabeth Hess, the author of numerous articles that have appeared in publications such as Ms, New York Woman, The New York Times Book Review, the Financial Times, The Guardian, Mother Jones, The Daily News, Working Mother. I have supervised and written several reports for the United Nations, including those on violence against women, women as AIDS caregivers, women and the informal economy, and women and war. I have served on the literature panel of the New York State Council of the Arts for the past two years, and am a board member and chair of the marketing committee of Girls Write Now and on the Advisory Board of Bellevue Literary Press. In 2013 I was chair of the advisory board of "Between the Door and the Street," Suzanne Lacy's performance piece that brought nearly 400 feminist activists to an iconic Brooklyn street.
