I am a trained pediatrician, practicing for more than two decades, the last 15 years of which I focussed on intensive care and emergency response for children. I founded the first of its kind exclusive Pediatric Rapid Response System (Pediatric equivalent of the Medical Emergency Team for adults) at Manipal Hospital. My passion for patient safety systems led me to Harvard University, where I completed the Safety Quality Informatics and Leadership (SQIL) program, which focuses on using analytical tools to build insights on patient care quality and safety policies in the workplace. I am now working towards improving safety policies in my workplace, a delicate task that involves respecting the clinical management ‘space’, convincing administration to deploy manpower resources and training, as well empowering them, alongside my day job where I run the Pediatric ER. I am keen to connect with like-minded people working towards patient safety and policies and in creating conversations in the public domain that will make such practices commonplace in hospitals across the country.
