The day-to-day job also included constantly building and improving data culture and data awareness across the organization.I am extremely grateful to have been a part of the team that performed a couple of big migrations in the data pipelines. We moved from AWS Redshift to Snowflake; from AWS SQS solutions to the AWS Kinesis stream together with the Kinesis Firehose delivery streams; we also introduced dbt tools in building more reliable data models; we have also moved Airflow into the Kubernetes clusters and we dockerized all ETL applications. All of these changes significantly improved system reliability and scalability. I am excited to mention some of the buzzwords from our vocabulary: Bazel, Jenkins, AWS Lambdas, Looker, Elasticsearch, Grafana, Sentry, GDPR, data governance, data lineage, terraform, API, Fivetran, VictoriaMetrics, and many more.

Content Insights (now part of Smartocto https://smartocto.com) is a startup, developing next-generation web analytics services for evaluating content performance. The clients of the company are in a dynamic market of online content creation and publishing.The founding team has over 20 years of experience in publishing and content marketing with several great projects behind them.I joined Content Insights as a Data Engineer. My team was responsible for developing and maintaining custom code operating on the Google platform. The pipeline code was written in Java and it was running on Google App Engine, together with Google BigQuery. The scheduled jobs were collecting and transforming data and storing results in PostgreSQL. At some point, it was decided to modernize our processes which resulted in the migration of a big part of our system to the AWS ecosystem.Our pipelines were orchestrated by Airflow, which executed scala and pyspark code. The event handler tool was written in the AKKA framework and was responsible for synching results data into PostgreSQL. We used tools such as AWS SageMaker, AWS Athena, and Tableau over datasets.

Schneider Electric DMS NS LLC Novi Sad is a joint venture IT company for research, development, and engineering in the electrical engineering management software field. The company’s main product, the DMS Software, encompasses a variety of analytical functions for calculation and optimization of electrical distribution utilities’ operation and provides the tools necessary for efficient monitoring, managing, and design and optimization of distribution systems.My responsibilities in the data team were creating and maintaining a tool for developing and monitoring backup and recovery strategy - BRT (Backup and Recovery Tool). The parts of the tech stack used on the project were Python, PL/SQL and Oracle ecosystem like databases and Oracle Recovery MANager. This position gave me opportunities to directly communicate with clients by assisting in installing and configuring databases like Oracle, Sybase, MySQL.On my journey through new projects, I had the opportunity to learn and work with Microsoft MSSQL, C#, Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) frameworks

TO-NET LLC is a company focused on development, implementation and maintenance of information systems.As a Software developer, I was involved in the development and design of ICT solutions designed mainly for natural gas distribution companies. The main software products and languages used for development solutions were Oracle Forms and Reports, Java, and Python.

Ziper, LLC was one of the leading retail chains in the country. The company operated seven chain stores, with over 300 employees.As a part of the data team, I was responsible for maintaining and developing custom BI solution using Oracle technologies. My main responsibilities were developing data warehouses, installing, configuring and upgrading database server software on various platforms, improving and maintaining an existing database backup and recovery strategy.Besides working with Oracle (back then it was version 8), Oracle Forms and Reports, I also had a chance to learn how to replace or reseat ink cartridges from the office printers, and how to program fiscal printers and POC devices. I learned golden rules in solving the issues applicable to basically any device and application: reboot or try again after a while. I learned how to communicate with users and assist in solving the issues, after I accidentally ran the script responsible for termination of all opened database sessions – what a glorious learning lesson that was! I also learned how important proper preparation was in migrating databases for the next fiscal year and how big of an impact a well organized team has on the business.
