I joined KPMG's financial restructuring operation in July 2012. After 18 months, I transferred to their transaction services department, focusing on health and life sciences within the national markets team. A summary of my experience is as follows:Transaction services: February 2014 – November 2016:I undertook a number of sell-side assignments, including long form and working capital reports; and buy-side due diligence projects across a variety of geographies and sectors including: car leasing, manufacturing, health and life sciences. Turnover range: £3.5mn to €1.0bn.Financial advisory and restructuring services: July 2012 – January 2014:I completed projects providing financial and operational advice to companies and lenders in manufacturing, transport, asset-based lending and mining. Lending range: €150mn to €700mn.

ZC was formed from a management buyout of Kroll's European recovery business.I operated within a ‘Delivery’ team, which primarily comprised bank referral work, including trading and non-trading Administrations, Administrative Receiverships and Independent Business Reviews. I also participated in the national marketing effort (aimed at ABLs and supporting the bank key account teams), and delivered internal and external training sessions, focusing on understanding financial statements and cash flow forecasts. I was responsible for the management of all aspects of each formal assignment and was the primary point of contact for the appointers. I supervised colleagues on each case, dealing with trading issues, including the initial feasibility analysis of each company, the ongoing trading review and selling the businesses.I led review assignments, reporting directly to the partner in charge of the case and attending meetings with the company and stakeholders (bank / investors). I was responsible for all aspects of such reviews, from co-ordinating and supervising the fieldwork to reporting to the relevant parties.The investigations often require the preparation or review of weekly, monthly and/or annual financial projections and always include the provision of potential solutions (options) for the Bank and the company.Turnover: £2m - £50m (bank lending up to £25m): property (development – residential); double glazing; automotive component manufacture & supply; legal firms; vehicle conversion; automotive retail; plumbing supplies; electronic exchange manufacture; marine rescue operations; and rail industry signalling manufacture.

After my secondment to KZC (NYC) I moved to Kroll's Birmingham office. I worked within the Corporate Advisory and Restructuring Group.

I was employed as an associate on a year-long secondment to the New York office of Kroll Zolfo Cooper. I was based in Minneapolis, MN, as part of a team engaged in an integral advisory role to NRG Energy Inc., a fully owned subsidiary of Xcel Energy, one of the largest energy providers in the US.I was one of three responsible for the material North America Northeast group of entities within the NRG group, including the monitoring of performance and resolution of operational issues (core focus review) and coordinating the eventual Chapter 11 exit refinancing package ($2.7 billion). I was personally assigned to deal with the trade and sale of a plant sold for over $150m. I was required to provide 13-week and longer-term cash flow forecasting, analyses and reporting at a project level and I co-ordinated ongoing cash management and liquidity preservation issues, liaising with the main lending banks and key creditor constituencies of the project.

I joined Kroll Buchler Phillips' Glasgow office in August 2000 as an Associate and was promoted in 2002.

I was an assistant manager in the Restructuring Group. After gaining experience in business start-up work during my training – focusing on creation and analysis of forecast trading projections – I worked within Reorganisation Services (RS), which encompassed corporate insolvency and independent business reviews. I was seconded to a major power supply company in 1999 to investigate the financial differences between gas supplied and invoiced via the appraisal of a new gas billing system.
