In July of 2024, Gordon was appointed by Mayor Andre Dickens to serve on the Advisory Committee on Aging (ACA), a standing committee of the Atlanta Regional Commission and a required advisory body for the 10-county Atlanta Area Agency on Aging. He then spent over two decades working with social enterprises in the ed-tech sector, including K-12, higher-ed and career-tech programs. Alternative pathways for workforce development, and immersive learning are two key areas he has continued to focus on. He has mentored early stage ventures in Techstars accelerators, at Georgia Tech's ATDC incubator and Venture Lab, as well as the Flashpoint accelerator. A social impact investor and entrepreneur, he mentored at Village Capital's Ed-Tech Accelerator and the Points of Light program. Recent data indicates that by 2020, 65% of all jobs in the US will require at least an Associate’s degree or some amount of post-secondary school training or certification. However, only 1 in 4 students are academically prepared for college when they graduate from high school, and less than half of recent graduates are workforce ready. Many students lack the skills and training necessary for securing jobs in careers with progressively higher wages and incomes. To address these challenges, Village Capital has selected a small group of elite ventures offering technology-driven solutions designed to improve student academic performance and position them for success as they enter the workforce to participate in the Village Capital Education: US 2016 venture development program.
