Research Software Developer

- Released all new echocardiogram, and diagnostic electrocardiogram modules to the popular Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC) database. This involved using Python and SQL code to de-identify patient records and integrate the modules with the MIMIC Clinical Database.- Improve physionet.org, the MIMIC database, and the Waveform Database (WFDB) toolboxes by making peer-reviewed pull requests in Github. Provide support for the extensive user communities of these resources.- Co-developed a tutorial on cuffless blood pressure estimation which made use of the MIMIC database and WFDB toolbox. Co-presented at a workshop on this topic at the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Conference (2022).- Integrated a method for linking a PhysioNet (https://physionet.org/) users ORCID iD to their PhysioNet account. This was done in Python Django using Oauth via the ORCID API.- Consolidated the MIMIC (Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care) website (https://mimic.mit.edu/) and GitHub resources. Multiple websites for different MIMIC resources (MIMIC-III, MIMIC-IV, MIMIC-CXR) were consolidated into one cohesive website by using Hugo. Associated repositories on GitHub were consolidated into a single repository by using the GitHub API - consolidated issues were labeled with the appropriate MIMIC resource and commit history was maintained.

Senior Research Associate

- Used semantic segmentation, a neural network based machine learning approach, to extract only the tongue from a picture of a person sticking out their tongue. - Developed and maintained our lab's website, dbiom.org, using the Joomla content management system.- Extracted heart rate information from video files of human faces by creating a modified version of the Eulerian video magnification technique which used empirical mode decomposition for filtering.- Assisted in various tasks for the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition where our group placed 2nd out of 250+ teams.- Implemented a local version of the MIMIC ICU database in Elasticsearch which significantly improved text search times. - Using a Hilbert Huang transform based coherence technique to assess group connectedness in a Tai Chi class setting. - Currently involved in a project which is analyzing the growth of integrative medicine within Harvard by using network graph analysis.

Mar 2017 - Nov 2020

Senior Research Assistant

- Analyzed data in Matlab, often using novel complexity-based biomarkers, from a research study of a Tai Chi intervention in healthy older adults. Authored and published 5 papers from this study. - Developed an improvement to the Multiscale Entropy algorithm to make it more robust to non-stationary time-series.- Was the primary contributor to a methodological paper on how to properly apply Multiscale Entropy to real-world time-series data.- Used network graph analysis to analyze an integrative medicine network in Boston.

Sep 2012 - Mar 2017

Research Technician

- Applying a Kelvin (capacitive coupling) probe to human tissues• Developed mathematical models around applying a capacitive couple probe to human tissue (dielectric materials) using Maple• Created a finite element model of the Kelvin probe interfacing with dielectric materials using COMSOL• Oversaw a research study using a Kelvin probe to measure surface potentials in human skin around Acupuncture points. The Kelvin probe isn't confounded by the electrode-specimen contact issues which existed in all previous studies on the electrical potentials of Acupuncture points. - Assisted in the development of protocols to measure streaming potentials resulting from blood and interstitial fluid flow

Mar 2010 - Sep 2012

Research Assistant Iv

- Provided electrical engineering advice on the development of a protocol for using a capacitive coupling (Kelvin) probe to assess potentials in biological tissues- Developed methods for making impedance measurements in human tissue by using a Solartron impedance analyzer and a 4 electrode arrangement- Assisted in the organization of a small conference of international experts in bioelectrical measurements of human tissue

Oct 2009 - Mar 2010

Applications Engineer

- Developed hardware which enabled customers to lower their cost of test. - Supported technical device test issues at customer sites.- Provided test technique solutions for high performance semiconductor chips through presentations and demonstration packages.

Jul 2007 - Feb 2009

Test Development Engineer

- Developed tests to verify the performance of Teradyne's LCD test instrument prior to shipment.- Co-led Teradyne's India Design Team in the development of a checker program to test LCD. - Traveled to Japan to train Teradyne's J750 test team on the LCD test process and debug.

Mar 2007 - Jul 2007

Senior Test Engineer

- Led a team of engineers and technicians in the introduction of high first pass yield, reliable arbitrary waveform generator instruments using TQM(total quality management) and Six Sigma guidelines.- Debugged instruments to component level using lab equipment ranging from oscilloscopes to LabView based bench setups. - Wrote debug programs and documentation to aid in the debug of defective instruments.- Trained engineers from the Philippines, China and Costa Rica for the transfer of processes to lower cost regions.
