Manufacturing Project EngineerTesla Motors Jun 2007 - May 2008Working with the main supplier of external Composite Body panels, particularly in terms of process development, cost down, repeatability and quality improvements. In addition, assisting Tesla and this supplier in a relocation of the manufacturing facility to a more suitable new location, with an emphasis on process workflows, and achievement of required quality and volume throughput. This project has now been completed and a second supplier has been sourced to cope with planned volume expansion. My role now has changed to cover the Manufacturing Engineering aspects of the complete vehicle Assembly and Testing of the Tesla Roadster at the Lotus Manufacturing Facility, responsible to the Vehicle Manufacturing Manager. I have played a major role in the development and continuous improvement in body panel fitment, particularly in terms of Gap & Flush. I have also Project Managed the planned introduction of the Glider Build Project for this totally electric vehicle. -

I have designed the layout, assessed & procured ancillary equipment requirements, and project managed the installation and commissioning of two new Robot Welding Cells. These Cells are now on full production. I have also Change Managed a series of process flow / material handling improvements, including a camera vision checking station, which also determines product variant and prints a specific bar code label.

Manufacturing Project EngineerAston Martin Lagonda Ltd Sep 2004 - Jan 2006Responsible to the Facilities Manager as part of a small team of engineers for the design & introduction of final phase expanded BIW assembly facilities, confirming specification of machinery and equipment required, expenditure justification, supplier selection, expedition of subsequent facility manufacture, off site buy off, installation, commissioning of manufacturing system, and final approval on site to enable full production volumes to be achieved. This BIW Manufacturing Facility is now fully installed, commissioned and operational, and has been developed to facilitate the required production volumes. It has already produced 1000 chassis units for the new V8 Vantage vehicle, and is now running at a rate of 100 units per week. I played a major role in the successful implementation of this project. -

Manufacturing Project EngineerAutomotive Products Driveline Technology Oct 2002 - May 2004Responsible to the Operations Manager for the introduction of various special purpose semi automated manufacturing assembly facilities, including full specification of machinery and equipment required, expenditure justification, supplier selection, expedition of subsequent facility manufacture, off site buy off, installation, commissioning of manufacturing system, and final approval on site to enable full production to start. First Automation Project (Rotary Assembly Facility) production readiness / pass off at Supplier achieved, delivery to APDT, installation & commissioning completed. Handover to Production now completed. This machine will process 85 different Clutch Drive Plates, with a changeover of less than 5 minutes. All Objectives in terms of delivery timing and budgetary control were achieved by me.I have recently Project Managed the setting up of additional Manufacturing Assembly Facilities in AP – Shanghai in China. I completed a two week project review visit to Shanghai, and may need to re-visit for machinery and tooling approval, and for setting up / commissioning the new assy facility. The first stage of this project has now been completed and accepted by APDT & AP – Shanghai.Specific Activity Areas: Assembly Process Re-engineering, Facility Layout / introduction of new plant / technology transfer / commissioning and handover to Production.

Manufacturing EngineerTwr Manufacturing Nov 2001 - Sep 2002Responsible to the Principal Engineer (AFC) for all the manufacturing aspects of all BIW vehicle closures, and the creation of the complete AFC Vehicle Final General Assembly Process Operation workflow sequence and detailed documentation, incorporating operation method analysis and description, BOM details, graphical illustrations, time standards analysis and tooling data. Including full assembly process details validation, during a controlled manufacturing Prototype build phase in the Leafield Technical Centre, followed by the OTS Build phase in China. This OTS build took place during May, June and July 2002, and was completed successfully in the last few weeks. I was a key contributor to this China build phase, involving OTS Assembly process details and sequence validation and assembly operator training. My time standards were within 5% of the Chinese version.I then completed the reports required for inclusion in the OTS Build Brochure, and final end of OTS validation of all Process Sheets for handover, which was at the end of August 2002. The customer was delighted by the high quality level of documentation, reporting and technical support service received.Specific Activity Areas: Assembly Process eng & documentation, Manning analysis, training operators.

Freelance Project EngineerJaguar Cars Jul 1997 - Nov 2001Responsible to the Principal Engineer (Sports Cars) for the Project Management and operational analysis of the recently installed new Sawmill facility, which combined a partial facility relocation and the introduction of Cellular Manufacturing to a traditional 'Jobbing' facility, utilising 'Pro-Model' Simulation modelling and liaisons with Manufacturing Focus Teams. Extensive Project control in terms of costs, and also in the co-ordination of internal engineering resources with the use of external engineering subcontractors was one of my key achievements. As a result, the Project was successfully completed on time, to budget, and production resumed within one hour of 'start-up' on 3.8.98. In addition, all the CDM, APQP and ISO14001 documentation for the Project File had to be collated and made audit ready. My final project was X400 facility expansion. This project is now completed and simulation modelling played a major role in terms of production flow through, manning optimisation, and facilities layout. I was the only Engineer at Jaguar Cars capable of completing the Pro-Model Simulation modelling activity required. I also introduced Laser Cutting of Veneers as a new process, which reduced both manufacturing labour and material costs, & generated many design options for Jaguar Automotive Veneer Panel applications.Specific Activity Areas: Simulation modelling / Facility layouts of manufacturing and assembly areas, Project Management of Facility intro, Logistics / Kanban, Ford / Jaguar APQP documentation systems.
