I conducted a placement year at the Institute of Health and Society at Newcastle University. Within this role I assisted with the running of two research projects both with a focus on interventions for children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy:• TwoCan • Early Therapy in Perinatal Strokes (eTIPS)The TwoCan Project is for young people aged 12-15 years old with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. The aims of the project is to develop a software interface for a wrist-worn device and an app that will provide performance related feedback to provide reinforcement and reward increased levels of activity in the affect upper limb. My responsibilities whilst working on the TwoCan Project included; • Writing a protocol for the Design Phase of the project.• Completing the Newcastle University Ethics application. • Creating information sheets, consent forms and debriefing sheets for the project ensuring that they were age appropriate. • Running social media accounts for the project. • Developing strategies for recruiting participants and stakeholders to attend Design Workshops, whilst keeping records of correspondence. • Organising and running Design Workshops at Open Lab. eTIPS is pilot study that started in 2015 to developed a home based parent-delivered intervention for babies affected by perinatal stroke. Whilst I was on placement I was able to attend and shadow 2 year follow-up appointments of children who had taken part in the initial study. This shadowing work allowed me to see the use of clinimetric assessment tools used in practice. In addition to this I was responsible for the evaluation and the dissemination of online materials relating to the study. Alongside my work on TwoCan and eTIPS I also acted as a second author on two systematic reviews; The Clinimetric Properties of Motor Assessments Aimed at Infants Under 6 Months; and A systematic review of parent training to improve communication skills of children with neurodisabilities up to 6 years.
