My Education Philosophy Education is more than the process of obtaining information. Within education, students explore their interests; develop social skills; form preliminary, personal philosophies; mature and develop; and are guided by leaders and role-models. The purpose of education is to provide children and adolescents a structured and safe environment in which they can grow as individuals and expand their knowledge. It is inexcusable to disregard students as developing individuals. Coinciding with social emotional learning pedagogy, I will strive to cultivate a classroom environment in which student’s development, ideas, interests, and opinions are valued. Introductory greetings accompanied with respectful, genuine tone will help cultivate such an environment. This educational philosophy is a living document where I reserve the right to revise it as I develop as a novice teacher. My main goal as a developing teacher is to remain ‘developing.’ My pedagogical ideologies are preliminary, but as I gain experience in my chosen profession, I expect these ideologies to develop and change as my experience in the classroom increases. Through reflection, I will revise my pedagogy and education philosophy as I gain experience and learn more about the teaching profession. Throughout my education, it has been stressed that educators must be continuing, life-long learners. A secondary goal of mine is to continue my research of pedagogical and cognitive science developments that can be incorporated into my instruction. The tertiary goal I have pertains to my own professional accomplishments. I have aspirations to explore English Language Learner certification, administration, and possibly a doctorate program. Despite my lofty aspirations, I recognize that my professional goals must not distract me from the crucial first years of teaching, so it is my goal to remain dedicated and focused on my role as a general or special education teacher to learn as much as I can about the profession before delving deeper into other professional pursuits.
