I have extensive experience working with students who have learning exceptionalities. In 2014, I worked as a tutor for an autistic student who needed help studying for the OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test). Through this experience, I learned that patience and compassion are integral to relationship-building with students. From 2018 through 2019, I volunteered as an educational assistant at Ridgemont High School, offering academic support to students in ELD (English Literacy Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. I also volunteered my services at Queen Elizabeth Public School in April 2022, working with students in a special education classroom. These placements have taught me how to support students who require specialized help with their studies. I have also worked with students in advanced English classrooms. In 2021, after completing my practicum placement at Ashbury College, I volunteered to teach the rest of my Othello unit to Grade 10 English students. This opportunity gave me practical experience, showing me what it would be like to run my very own English classroom one day. During a volunteer placement at Ridgemont High School, I worked as a teaching assistant for students in Grade 10 Academic English. These placements have given me the confidence, experience, and knowledge to pursue a career in education. I am eager to put my skills as an educator to good use.
