My primary role involved assisting in the publication and subsequent advocacy work for a policy brief addressing Dungavel House, an immigration removal centre in Scotland. I also volunteered as front of house staff for the organisation's Peace Crane Exhibition as part of Edinburgh's Just Festival. This involved welcoming guests, answering any questions guests had, and ensuring that the exhibition ran smoothly throughout the day.

I assisted with policy research with the Edinburgh chapter of Europe Must Act, an organisation that seeks to decongest refugee camps in the Aegean Islands and advocate for a fair and humane migration policy across Europe. Most notably, my team successfully put forth a petition before the Edinburgh Council to increase the number of refugees housed in the city by 250 over the next five years. I also participated in the educational outreach team which was responsible for putting together a resource pack for teachers to use in their classroom to educate pupils on refugee and asylum issues.

In this role, I wrote a policy brief centred on the high rate of overturn on appeal for asylum cases in the UK and how this issue can be addressed within the Scottish context. The policy brief was published as part of the Buchanan Institute's "10 Big Ideas for Scotland 2025" project, which was commissioned by the Scottish Policy Foundation. Additionally, I assisted in publicity-related tasks for the report including drafting and sending press releases, appearing on radio interviews, and contacting relevant stakeholders.
