Tractor driver responsible for catching falling hop vines into the trailer as a top cutter was pushing the tractor and trailer from behind. Then I transported trailer full of hops to the harvest complex, often via busy main roads and then reversed into narrow shed bays to unload. I also adapted my skills to other departments, when needed, including feeding the vines to the machine and baling hops for distribution.

Worked in a team of 7 members for a contractor in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand. I set up as part of a team and on my own packed away Prattley Sheep Handling System efficiently and in a precise manner. With animal welfare in mind at all times, I communicated effectively to drench, vaccinate, castrate, and dock over 130,000 lambs. The physically demanding aspect of the job allowed me to demonstrate my resilience whilst learning a completely new way of dealing with such a busy period in the farming calendar.

Responsible for methodically testing a variety of grain including wheat, barley, OSR and rye, using commodity-dependent procedures. Then I inputted recorded data onto the computer software system so farm traders could access the information. Financial decisions were based on this information for both local farmers and larger clients. Also managed several intakes using a computer-controlled system, took samples from wagons and trailers, and organised wagons for intake and outtakes whilst adhering to site safety regulations.

Managed my own personalised niche online news website focusing on women in agriculture. Taking a digital-fast approach, I developed a strong self brand to generate content, engage real audiences and create a portfolio of multimedia journalism. Content included news articles on my attendance of the ‘Women in Food and Agriculture’ online summit and an East Yorkshire Hemps sustainable solution to the cold weather. I was able to be effective and independent in news-gathering by showcasing my interviewing skills. The use of digital and social media allowed the production and dissemination of content in order to build an audience and brand.
