I am responsible for the scheduling of emergency department shifts of off-service residents, including transitional year and internal medicine residents. I play an integral role in recruitment, including interviewing residency applicants. I schedule EMS shifts for all residents each month, as well as coordinate presentations during weekly didactics. I plan the annual retreat and am involved in several administrative meetings, including residency committees and hospital committees.

During my gap year before medical school, I conducted clinical research at the #1 orthopaedic hospital in the U.S. I was involved in coordinating projects, writing project proposals for the IRB, authoring manuscripts, and presenting at national conferences. I also gained vast clinical exposure in physician offices and the operating room.

As an EMT at a premier regional health system, I worked transporting patients and responding to 911 calls. I also worked on the NICU ambulance in conjunction with a NICU team and on Specialty Care Transport Units.

I oversaw all operations of the student-run Emergency Medical Services, including the annual budget, equipment, 70 peer EMTs and community outreach. I conducted weekly board meetings and met regularly with university administrators and public safety professionals. I was responsible for all media coverage, including interviews and publications. I represented the Division of Public Safety at two university presentations where I addressed 2,500 students.

I conducted clinical research during my undergraduate studies and my duties entailed surveying patients, basic lab techniques, DNA extractions, and data collection to study patient-oriented outcomes. I oversaw a project investigating the link between adenovirus and obesity.

I was selected for the Overlook Summer Internship Program (OSIP) in which I shadowed 20 different medical professionals, ranging from neurosurgeons to psychiatrists to gastroenterologists, in one-day rotations. I gained experience in the emergency room, operating room, and physician offices. I was exposed to what life is like in each field to help inform my career choice.
