In this position, I would strive to design for the optimal structural efficiency of a building, at times having to overcome architecturally aesthetic design challenges, in addition to various terrain and weather conditions. The position gave me insight into the systems of work in the workplace, by coordinating with colleagues, e.g. other engineers and draughtsmen, to achieve deadlines to suit clients and colleagues schedules. Also, the post allowed me to have hands on experience with various forms of design software, at the same time giving me confidence in their application and boosting my computing skills above the standard realms of Microsoft office suite.Further to working with colleagues, I was also given the opportunity to have experience dealing with various contractors and architects, maintaining and developing a professional dialogue with each of the parties. The exchanges often positioned me in a support role, allowing me to offer advice and guidance on various design features of projects worked upon.Overall I believe that this experience has given me an understanding of the working application of engineering principals in relation to projects of varying size, and an appreciation of the design and construction process.
